Luis Lacalle Pou

Luis Lacalle Pou served as President of Uruguay from 2020 to 2025. During his presidency, he led the country through a period marked by economic reform, institutional modernization, and the global COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining Uruguay’s long-standing democratic stability and commitment to the rule of law.
Before assuming the presidency, Lacalle Pou had an extensive career in public service, serving multiple terms as a National Representative and as a leading figure within Uruguay’s political system. He is a member of the National Party (Partido Nacional) and comes from a family with a long tradition of public service; his father, Luis Alberto Lacalle, also served as President of Uruguay (1990–1995).
As president, Lacalle Pou prioritized fiscal responsibility, public security, economic openness, and regulatory reform, while promoting social cohesion and institutional strength. His administration emphasized democratic governance, transparency, and Uruguay’s role as a reliable partner in regional and international affairs.
