Our Story

Founded in 2016 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Alvaro Salas Castro and led by CEO Mimi Boyer, the Democracy Lab Foundation (Demo Lab) has pioneered the creation of the BLISS Summit. Serving as an innovative citizen participation laboratory, Demo Lab is deeply committed to advancing citizen engagement. Through extensive research, Demo Lab addresses the erosion of trust in democracy across Costa Rica and Latin America, implementing on-the-ground programs spanning education, capacity building, and research.

The BLISS Summit, stemming from Demo Lab's mission to foster dialogue, has emerged as a transformative platform dedicated to defending democracy and catalyzing positive change in Latin America. More than a mere event, BLISS serves as a deliberate convergence of brilliant minds, uniting stakeholders from diverse backgrounds including family offices, business leaders, activists, philanthropists, academics, and artists. This intentional gathering fosters a collaborative spirit, transcending traditional boundaries and facilitating a rich exchange of ideas.

At its core, BLISS aims to harness the collective wisdom and influence of its participants to drive tangible change across Latin America. Over the past three years, BLISS has nurtured a vibrant community where individuals and organizations alike are inspired to contribute even more, year upon year.
Please meet some of the organizations who have joined us on our journey to create a more prosperous and free Latin America:

BLISS Summit values the integrity and impact of our gatherings, ensuring that each participant contributes meaningfully to our shared goals of advancing democracy and fostering positive change in Latin America. To maintain the quality of engagement and collaboration, BLISS operates as an invite-only event. This approach allows us to curate a diverse, inclusive and influential group of attendees who can actively contribute to the depth and breadth of discussions and initiatives. We appreciate your understanding of this policy as we strive to create an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue and action. If you are interested in joining us, we welcome you to apply for consideration.

In proud partnership with CRC Endurance, DemoLab hosts the FWD Tech and Freedom Academies, bridging education, empowerment, and employment for young people across Costa Rica. This innovative initiative offers a free 6-month software engineering course by CRC Endurance, complemented by DemoLab's Freedom Curriculum covering Leadership, entrepreneurship, civic liberties, and financial literacy. With active cohorts in Chacarita and Santa Ana, the FWD Academies will expand to Nosara, Cobano, and Limon in the next two years.

Funds raised from ticketing and sponsorship at BLISS fuel the expansion of our initiatives at Demo Lab, allowing us to support young people across Costa Rica to become educated, employable, and engaged individuals.
