Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo

Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo (Madrid, 1974) is a Spanish politician, journalist, and public intellectual. A staunch defender of liberal democracy against populism, nationalism, separatism, and identity politics, she holds a B.A. and D.Phil. in History from the University of Oxford, where she studied under eminent historian Sir John H. Elliott.
She is currently a Member of the Spanish Parliament for Madrid, Deputy Spokesperson for the Partido Popular in Congress, and Spokesperson in the Constitutional Committee.
She has worked as a journalist, political analyst, and interviewer of leading thinkers and political figures, and as a foreign correspondent in challenging contexts such as Venezuela. She is also the spokesperson for Libres e Iguales, a civic association dedicated to defending democracy in Spain, Europe, and the Americas. An outspoken advocate for Enlightenment values, her speeches and debates have gone viral across Spain and Latin America.
She has received numerous distinctions, including Oxford University’s Gibbs Prize in History (proxime accessit), the Spanish Civil Society Prize from Civismo, and was named a Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos.
She is the author of ‘Políticamente Indeseable’, an acclaimed book that blends memoirs from her years on the political front line with an essay on the ills of contemporary democracy and personal family recollections.
